The Hollow by Nora Roberts

Description: For Fox, Caleb, Gage, and the other residents of Hawkins Hollow, the number seven portends doom - ever since, as boys, they freed a demon trapped for centuries when their blood spilled upon the Pagan Stone...

Their innocent bonding ritual led to seven days of madness, every seven years. And now, as the dreaded seventh month looms before them, the men can feel the storm brewing. Already they are plagued by visions of death and destruction. But this year they are better prepared, joined in their battle by three women who have come to the Hollow. Layla, Quinn, and Cybil are somehow connected to the demon, just as the men are connected to the force that trapped it.

Since that fateful day at the Pagan Stone, town lawyer Fox has been able to see into others' minds, a talent he shares with Layla. He must earn her trust, because their link will help fight the darkness that threatens to engulf the town. But Layla is having trouble coming to terms with her newfound ability - and with this intimate connection to Fox. She knows that once she opens her mind, she'll have no defense against the desire that threatens to consume them both...

Liked: Okay... so basically the only thing that really stood out that I liked was the whole, Fox and Layla needing to lean on each other with their special "talent." Other than that, it was kind of the same ol' same ol'. Oh and I also though the history of the curse and child stuff was interesting.. definitely brought up my rating on the book.

Disliked: What I can say that I really, really did not like was the fact that the demon child (can't really remember the name) lost all of the spooky, creepiness that was in the first book. So,
it was just another love story that had a little trouble in the background..

Blood Brothers by Nora Roberts

Description: Every seven years, on the seventh day of the seventh month, strange things happen. It began when three young boys - Caleb, Fox, and Gage - went on a camping trip to the Pagan Stone. And twenty-one years later, it will end in a showdown between evil and the boys who have become men - and the women who love them...

It had been the Pagan Stone for hundreds of years, long before three boys stood around it and spilled their blood in a bond of brotherhood, unwittingly releasing a force bent on destruction...

Every seven years, there comes a week in July when the locals do unspeakable things - and then don't seem to remember them. The collective madness has made itself known beyond the town borders and has given Hawkins Hollow the reputation of a village possessed.

The modern-day legend draws reporter and author Quinn Black to Hawkins Hollow with the hope of making the eerie happening the subject of her new book. It is only February, but Caleb Hawkins, descendant of the town founders, has already seen and felt the stirrings of evil. Though he can never forget the beginning of the terror in the woods twenty-one years ago, the signs have never been this strong before. Cal will need the help of his best friends, Fox and Gage, but surprisingly he must rely on Quinn as well. She, too, can see the evil that the locals cannot, somehow connecting her to the town - and to Cal. As winter turns to spring, Cal and Quinn will shed their inhibitions, surrendering to a growing desire. They will form the cornerstone of a group of men and women bound by fate, passion, and the fight against what is to come from out of the darkness...

Liked: Okay, so it's been a while since I've read this book so I'm just going off of memory... so first things first, I loved the description of the demon child... I had this horrible picture in my mind and it was actually kind of scary in a creeping, demon child sort of way. Also this series isn't just a time period in someone's life and we enter just for a little bit, this involved nearly the men's whole lives and the thought and creativity that Nora Roberts put into it just made it so much better.

Disliked: The ONLY thing I didn't particularly enjoy, although the un-enjoyment happened after the book was read, was that underneath the great story I feel as though I have already read it before (which I haven't to those who were wondering). Where it came from, I don't know but it just bugged me..

The Dragon Lord's Daughter by Bertrice Small

Okay so this is obviously about the daughters of the Dragon Lord and how they fall in love. Honestly, I didn't even finish the book. I can't stand a book that seems like smaller books put together and attempted to make one story.. it just doesn't work for me. Usually I enjoy Small's books so this is a disappointment for me. A weak rating of 2.5 of 5.

Although the daughters are descendants of King Arthur, it needed something more. The first daughter, illegitimate daughter, was the only story that I enjoyed. Maia was nowhere near as good and Junia I didn't even give the honor of reading.

Surprisingly, I don't like how long Small's stories are and in this book I wish she would have split it up and wrote more about each daughter. Weird. I wish there was more I could say but this was just a sad book with not much excitement.

House Lust by Daniel McGinn

Once again, my week has been chuck-full of tests, homework, and school owning my life so I haven't been able to get on here at all basically. So that's a bit depressing.

On to the book! I know this doesn't sound like anything I would read, just from the title I would normal not even read the inside cover. BUT, it was for a class, as many of you can understand, so the choice was not mine.

Even though I would have NEVER read this book on my own, it was actually quite enjoyable, and many times while reading it I recognized things that both my family and I do (like being OBSESSED with House Hunters.... you know you are too!).

Just as the title suggests, the book is all about houses and how the American Dream involves owning your own house. Everything is analyzed in the housing market and if anyone is interested in reading this book, do it. My rating is a 4 out of 5 (yes even I am surprised by that!).

American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis

Ah yes, Pat Bateman... what can I say about this fellow, he is demented and sick but makes for a good read. Although the fashion motif got old on the first page, which is why Ellis only gets a 4 out of 5 from me. Besides that it was well written and had so many hidden messages that I'm glad I had to read it for a class because now we are to discuss all of them.

I know this doesn't fall under my normal interests, but my fiance talked me into taking Crime and Violence in Literature, and I'm happy he did. Since I wouldn't read this on my own mainly because I wouldn't understand most or catch little things that are important so that's why I'm glad I have a teacher to point those out to me.

I would recommend this book to someone who is looking for something different but doesn't mind the gory murders. Oh and the movie isn't as good so watch it after reading the book so it doesn't turn you off!

Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas

Lisa Kleypas is definitely one of my favorite authors but unfortunately this wasn't one of my favorite books. The plot seemed original enough but once you're past the first couple of chapters it becomes an almost generic historical romance. Nothing really exciting happens. Since I didn't necessarily hate the novel I would rate it a 3 out of 5 in essence, I have no feelings about it.. no good no bad, just kind of there.

The characters at least had original occupations, a female author in times when women weren't the novelists. But that faded quickly... I don't know what else to really say.... of course I would still read it but I don't believe I would have bought it if I knew then.... but hey it's still a book!
